Jared my 5.5yr is definitely throttling along with one milestone after another. Recently I brought him and his 2.5yr brother for their annual dental checkup. And dentist was very pleased with the development of his milk teeth and also pointed out a few appearances of his permanent teeth. Yes, PERMANENT TEETH….Arghhhh….he is growing up too quick! Too quick!
We have actually started to notice that his little rice grains teeth have shifted positions before our visit to the dentist and noted that a few little ones were shaky. Dentist affirmed that it is the normal procedures of permanent teeth coming through and instructed that if these shaky little rice grains are still persistent and stubborn till the end of the following month we are to make another trip to the dentist for some human intervention J
This morning my little man got out of bed his usual time, into his routine of getting ready and changing into his uniform for school; Together with his little side kick brother they were both standing on their respective stools in the bathroom sink brushing their teeth together. First gulp of water to rinse his mouth a little ‘tick’ was heard as he spat out….
Jared: Oh? What was that?
Jayden: Oh…what was that? (mimicking his older bro as always)
Mummy: Oh O…is that your shaky tooth?
Jared: Nah….its just water….right?
Mummy: Are you sure? Water doesn’t make that little thud sound. Open your mouth and let me see?
Jared: *Opening wide and there we see a little hole with tiny pool of blood oozing out
I have to say I had a sudden sense of relief to see that he is experience the magical moments of getting his permanent teeth naturally. How cute.
This Chinese New Year is rather unique as it fell on Feb 14 (yes V-Day) and it added more uniqueness to it for me as Feb 13 is my dearest mummy’s birthday (which is also CNY eve – reunion dinner). I didn’t get so spend these special occasions with my extended family but in Auckland with immediate family and in laws since I was recently back in Asia in Nov/Dec. My initial thought that ushering the New Year will be rather special for I am a Tiger (my Chinese zodiac sign) myself but I have to say I feel rather indifferent. Chinese New Year has always been one of my favourite festive seasons ever since I was a little girl. Read the rest of this entry »
We didn’t think we would make another trip back to Malaysia and Singapore again so soon seeing we visited last November however we only needed very little convincing when we received a wedding invitation held in Taiwan from one of Daddy’s good buddies to pack up the family especially after scoring a good deal on the airfares (while Mummy was hawking the airline sites for weeks) plus the convenience of flying direct via Singapore Airline (and the opportunity to visit the other set of grandparents . Mummy was most excited about this trip as she will get to spend time with her family and she was very eager to meet the new arrival of the family (Baby Kieran), her new little nephew.

Daddy posted an entry on Jayden just before he turns two and so here is an update from Mummy on what new milestones we have for little Jayden since then…..? He is still going through a mild case of terrible twos but compared to a couple of months ago, I have to say we have seen big improvements. We haven’t seen the act of throwing himself onto the floor much nor the super loud screaming sessions which nothing would appease him either. He is still has his moments though where he pushes our boundaries and bullying his big brother but we get by alright. Read the rest of this entry »
Ever since I got persuaded by the hubby to try converting the ‘not very attractive’ flower bed into a vege patch, exciting results have been witnessed so far. I showed some pictures in my previous posts but here are some updates and one of the long awaited outcomes was the broccoli.

With my first born turning 5 this August, this alone warrants a celebration! We threw him a little birthday do with his good friends. This also means my little baby is starting school! Eeekkksss!!!! It is a lot harder for me than for him to digest this fact I think. Whatever happened to my little boy who I used to chase after to change his diapers, those pitter-patter sound of his little feet coming into my room in the middle of the night sneaking in between me and his daddy insisting to cuddle up and sleeping with us? After a total of 6 school visits he was all eager and keen to finally get his turn to “go school for real” he said.

Admittedly, most of my Me-time (if there was any) is taken up being ‘online’ with me soaking my brain in the bottomless pit of the cyberspace – whether it is personal emails, news, blogs and the popular Facebook. And having a blackberry to supplement my addiction towards IT has without fail made me wonder if it was the right remedy to get a more balance lifestyle. Using IT has become a big part in my work and social life today, with it being the core of my profession plays a big part but I rely on it very heavily in my social and personal life too. I stay connected with my high school friends, my family and relatives who are all around the different parts of the globe. Writing up little posting like this one is another little hobby of mine. With my crazy routine I try to post at least once a month to capture the highlights that went on. Something for me to ponder upon when I am old and crusty or something that my grandkids can read up :p

June 2009 marks the 10th year I’ve been in New Zealand after I came with the intention of taking a break from working in Singapore and to give my blossoming relationship with by now darling hubby a go. I must say 10 years later, I’ve no regrets in choosing the path and happy with what I have achieved today. The things I want to do and accomplish is still ever growing and long but I am optimistic that I will get there and tick them all and be happy each day that I have with my beautiful family….

Took the day off work on Monday, needed to get quite a few things done with Jared. He came home last week with spots all over his limbs and we first thought it was probably bites from sand fly from the sandpit at his creche. Following on the next few days he came home with even more ‘bite’ spots. So after being away from the daycare for 2 days we spotted a few new ones. Eeks! Hubby and I started debating if its the worrying C-pox! Double Eeks! Now poor old mummy has yet to get the C-Pox (everytime she says or hears the word she gets the itch) so she got herself vaccinated (I like writing about myself as a 3rd person :p) . And when she followed on got both of her boys vaccinated as well at their earliest possible age.
So we were wondering if he could have had a mild case of C-pox and not wanting to bet on the chances we thought a visit to the doctors was inevitable. The doc gave us a few possible diagnosis….seeing that he wasn’t feeling unwell, she basically said…”it is either C-pox, hand, foot and mouth disease, bug bites or scabies” SCABIES!!?? We have no pets didn’t go near any but was assured by the doc that it doesn’t need to be near the vicinity of pets/animals to get scabies. And out of the possibilities the one that definitely required treatment is the latter. And its a simple treatment of applying a lotion all over from neck down and leave it on for 24hours before washing it off and there is no harm in scabies treatment even if its is not.
Anyway….the point of this post wasn’t just about spots….but more the little episode at the clinic around the waiting area. Jared and I were early so we sat around waiting for our turns. I grabbed the nearest National Geographic mag as opposed to the normal celebrity gossip while waiting. Thats when I had this bright idea of ‘educating’ my 4+ son!
Came across an article on amphibians and a nice little illustration on the life cycle of frogs.
Me: Hey Jared, this is a baby frog….it looks like a fish doesn’t it?
Jared (not interested with what I have shown him): Yeah I know, its called a tadpole Mum.
Me: Oh? You know this?
Jared: And see this tail (pointing at the pix), it will grow shorter as it grows and finally gone and into an adult frog.
[I feel rather dumb I must say but not giving up and turning into a page of variety of these slimy creatures]
Me: Now look at this frog, Jared…its much bigger and all bumpy!
Jared: Thats not a frog, its a toad.
[Oh dear me...I so underestimated my kid. Felt kind of dumb]
Turning over the pages there was this article on underwater creatures and this particular picture got my attention.
Me: Hey Jared, look at this picture here…its so colourful and pretty. Looks like flowers under the oceans right?
Jared: Its anemones Mum. They live in the sea bed of the ocean.
[I was completely blown away and speechless...and eventually just smiled and proud of my little boy]
We did heaps for the rest of the day, we went to the dentist for his annual check and gotten a good thumbs up and he was rewarded with Ben 10 stickers. And the other biggie was we went and got him enrolled into the school that we are zoned to for he is starting school 4 months time. Scary thought but time really flies…my little boy is going to start school soon! Eeks!
August 2008
Yes it is now October but this is when I finally managed to post this entry up. August 2008 has a few significant events to me and I’ve been nagging myself to put this up but the excuses I gave myself were just too good…until now.
