This Chinese New Year is rather unique as it fell on Feb 14 (yes V-Day) and it added more uniqueness to it for me as Feb 13 is my dearest mummy’s birthday (which is also CNY eve – reunion dinner). I didn’t get so spend these special occasions with my extended family but in Auckland with immediate family and in laws since I was recently back in Asia in Nov/Dec. My initial thought that ushering the New Year will be rather special for I am a Tiger (my Chinese zodiac sign) myself but I have to say I feel rather indifferent. Chinese New Year has always been one of my favourite festive seasons ever since I was a little girl. Admittedly, most of my Me-time (if there was any) is taken up being ‘online’ with me soaking my brain in the bottomless pit of the cyberspace – whether it is personal emails, news, blogs and the popular Facebook. And having a blackberry to supplement my addiction towards IT has without fail made me wonder if it was the right remedy to get a more balance lifestyle. Using IT has become a big part in my work and social life today, with it being the core of my profession plays a big part but I rely on it very heavily in my social and personal life too. I stay connected with my high school friends, my family and relatives who are all around the different parts of the globe. Writing up little posting like this one is another little hobby of mine. With my crazy routine I try to post at least once a month to capture the highlights that went on. Something for me to ponder upon when I am old and crusty or something that my grandkids can read up :p
June 2009 marks the 10th year I’ve been in New Zealand after I came with the intention of taking a break from working in Singapore and to give my blossoming relationship with by now darling hubby a go. I must say 10 years later, I’ve no regrets in choosing the path and happy with what I have achieved today. The things I want to do and accomplish is still ever growing and long but I am optimistic that I will get there and tick them all and be happy each day that I have with my beautiful family….
August 2008
Yes it is now October but this is when I finally managed to post this entry up. August 2008 has a few significant events to me and I’ve been nagging myself to put this up but the excuses I gave myself were just too good…until now.
A couple of emails about a Bake-Off were circulating at my work place and somehow it caught my attention. Baking or cooking has always been a little hobby I love but finding time to do it became a huge tasks especially with 2 little boys, working full time and a household to take care of. Upon getting the third circular prompting for more entrants I started to be keen about it. I wasn’t going to aim high as I may not find the little window of time to bake the night before. So I called and pencilled in as a ‘maybe’ with the organiser. Thought I share my little expreience with you.

This winter hubby and I decided to invest in a new wood burner fire place for our home. The whole process of shopping, getting quotes, council approval, pickup and etc were a little long winded but we eventually got all that sorted and we have it all up and ready to go before the cold weather hit us. I have always envisioned a nice cozy warm home during those cold winter nights where there is no need to wear layers of thick clothing just to keep ourselves warm or to be wrapped around with blankets while watching the telly. And now my dream comes true. With the nice load of pine wood that we bought by the bagful, we are enjoying a comfortable and nice smelling winter evenings feeling totally contented and warm. Especially for NZ homes where its not cold enough to justify the cost of getting fully insulated with centralized heating or heat pump plus the fire wood is much more affordable than a screaming power bills with the heaters which can usually only warm a room per unit. I am such a happy winter girl now.
1 December 2006 (Friday)
Today is the official first day of summer in New Zealand. I must say that it is one really cold summer day. We had a couple of cool wintery days so far, very odd way of welcoming SUMMER!
6 October 2006 (Friday)
Today was one of those days where I so appreciate the term TGIF! It has been a week full of nasty complaints and writing reports about these complaints…(at work). All of it is making me feeling rather negative and depressed. But today is also a festive day in the Chinese culture. In the chinese calendar, today is the 15th day of the eighth month aka Mooncake Festival. There is some old folks tale behind the whole story, but I am sure you can google it if you are keen to know more. Coincidently it is also my SiL’s birthday. She is in Singapore, and from what I heardthere is a nice romantic dinner planned with her beloved. Hah…can’t imagine my good old bro to be romantic…hahaWell…Happy Birthday, YL! And happy Mooncake Festival to all!
Oh Yes oh Yes its SPRINGTIME – 4 September 2006
Embracing SPRING 2006 with open arms – I can tell you how glad am I to be tearing away the calendar with AUGUST month written on it! I wanted this winter to be behind me so badly. And its welcoming SPRING! The mating season I mean seasons with beautiful flowers, perfect temperature, longer daylight….my favourite season of the whole year. Of course for those who can’t stand the
pollen have to be careful with all the ashmatic attacks, hayfever and all. Take precautions ppl and ENJOY the beautiful season ahead.
I have been thinking of outdoor activities I get to bring Jared to, and he can run around much more without all the bulky layers of clothing, all wrapped up like an eskimo. More sunshine, more smiles….
