Little things in life…..

Admittedly, most of my Me-time (if there was any) is taken up being ‘online’ with me soaking my brain in the bottomless pit of the cyberspace – whether it is personal emails, news, blogs and the popular Facebook. And having a blackberry to supplement my addiction towards IT has without fail made me wonder if it was the right remedy to get a more balance lifestyle. Using IT has become a big part in my work and social life today, with it being the core of my profession plays a big part but I rely on it very heavily in my social and personal life too. I stay connected with my high school friends, my family and relatives who are all around the different parts of the globe. Writing up little posting like this one is another little hobby of mine. With my crazy routine I try to post at least once a month to capture the highlights that went on. Something for me to ponder upon when I am old and crusty or something that my grandkids can read up :p

The month of July has been more of a roller coaster ride like for me. Exciting yet emotionally draining. Being a full time working mother of two little gorgeous boys as it is made my daily routines totally packed with madness rush of time. Wishing each day to be longer than 24hours has somewhat made my daily wish list. One of the highlights this month was when my little brother and wife welcome their first newborn a tad earlier than expected at 34weeks. The emotional turmoil faced by the immediate family plus the sense of helplessness was very hard to bear for all. The young set of parents is constantly given support and prayers are with them and their little darling to grow stronger each day so he can eventually be home very soon. Having seen the couple of photos sent to me I am assured that he is a little fighter and so totally gorgeous.

My youngest son just turned 2 couple of days ago and we brought a cake to his crèche for morning tea and a little cake for home with Granny and Aunt Val to celebrate this big milestone. I am sure a lot of other parents with more than 1 child will agree with me that milestones are carried out and celebrated quite differently with your subsequent child compared to your first. Jared my older child will also be reaching the big milestone of starting school early next month with him turning 5! And he has been thinking aloud about how he wants his birthday party to be held and what type of cake he wants to have etc. We celebrated his 4th birthday with a small group of children from his crèche at an indoor playground and it must have been such a great day for him that he started talking about how he will have his 5th and 6th birthday the very next day! Both my boys have very different personalities but I am fortunate to have them playing very well together even though most often than not they are very capable of turning the house upside down as if we were visited by burglars on a daily basis. I find little figurines or pieces of building blocks hidden in obscure little corners around the house and according to my almost 5yo, there are ‘treasures’ or ‘bombs’ or ‘secrets’ placed for a good purposes and that I shouldn’t be removing them if possible! He started to role play especially on characters or creatures he saw on TV. Occasionally I get 2 little boys crawling around the house roaring like lions searching for food. Or I get 2 giggling little boys playing, tackling and laughing so hard together that it was simply pure joy to experience.

I have also started a little vegetable patch in the backyard. After the hubby convinced me that the few ‘lumps’ of flowers that I tried to have on the flower bed has passed their used by date and are more of an eye sore; that we should try putting in some other stuff that we can get something back in return as opposed to those miserable attempts of mine trying to add some colours in the garden. So, after a few bags of compost and seedlings we have successfully harvest quite a few rounds of vegetables. I have photos to proof. We had bak choy (shanghai bak choy), fancy lettuce, broccoli, English spinach, choy sum and also some celery. The sense of satisfaction is heighten when you get to harvest and have a plate of self grown veges on the dinner table. I would totally recommend this to all who enjoys gardening.

I for one am the type that welcomes change with open arms. I like a little bit of surprises to spice up the daily routines. With work, I have been asked to help teach a third year course as a colleague has decided to move back to the UK for family reason. Looking back it has been awhile since I last lectured so I think this change is something I do look forward to. Being behind the scene for too long now so this idea is totally refreshing for me.

With Jared starting school in the next few weeks also means a new change in our daily rush for time routine. He for one is very eager to be finally turning 5 and going to school like all his other best mates from crèche. We bought uniforms and been going to school visits and he was always very keen to go. He asked to put on his uniform on his last visit so that he gets to really feel like he going to school for real. I think poor old mummy is anxious and nervous for nothing. Not sure if I should share this in a public forum, but I am rather proud that he can now clean himself up after a visit to the toilet for a number 2 (ahem-hem). All these little things in life can mark such significant milestones for one person’s life but also be a complete oxymoron in another’s.

Congratulations on the vegetable patch! That looks great, and very yummy. Well done you. Hopefully my garden will be much improved soon, although we have enjoyed sitting out a lot lately, as long as it hasn’t been raining! If you are into your DIY or gardening, I work with exchange and mart and there are currently lots of items listed for sale there under these categories, so you can pick up a bargain or indeed sell some of your stuff http://www.exchangeandmart.co.uk/ I hope that is a help
